I had the opportunity to participate in a two day clinic with creator and researcher Stephane Barras « The Caddie Player » genius.  Firstly to be invited to this amazing facility at Château de Chailly, is something special.  To be impressed on arrival by this regal historic structure, in the centre of this quaint country village. The rolling hills of the Burgundy region of France,  flashes of autumn colours already appearing, despite the brisks winds, the sun was out and it was time to test this theory, and learn what I needed to know on how to improve my putting!

Stephane looked at me and said… »I can tell you seriously that even within two hours I will make you a better putter ! « First,  we talked about the system he created, his reserach, his findings and case studies for Caddie Player.  One needs to understand the logic of the system to be able to transform it, apply it and then put it into regular practice.

Ok….so the test!   On the putting green we go and we start with the Caddie Player test of playing a fictional round to arrive on the green with various putts to negociate, differing distances, differing scores…..scenarios such as:  sinking the putt for a birdie at 18 feet….sinking it for an eagle at 36 feet and so on.  Not much to ask…..really!  So, we finished the round, and followed through with the analysis.  OK, I’m not only honest, but realistic….my score was not exceptional, but with so much room for improvement, it could only be a positive result.

We finished the analysis on the computer and returned to the green.  It is an invaluable test making you aware of the susceptibility of many golfers on the green… Misreading of the greens,  missed speeds and distances.  Following some practical exercises and drills, in conjunction  with Stephane’s explanations and logical theory behind this method, the golfer has a much clearer idea how to successfully apply this system when actually on the green,  with a more relaxed mental focus.

So after the theory and training, it was time to execute all that I had learned on the course.  I couldn’t believe my luck to arrive on the first tee with Christian Cévaër, not only one of the recorder holders on the European Tour for the best putting average, but also a contributer and particpant to the Caddieplayer research.  Two professional players to assist my golf…..what could be better?

With CaddiePlayer, you don’t have to be  a professional golfer to benefit from this system.  In fact, it is quite simple once you understand the strategic method of Caddieplayer, you too will be putting like a professional!  Thank you Stephane for your wisdom and positive influence on sharpening up my putting game.

Evian Les Bains October 14th, 2014

South Korean Hyo Joo Kim makes First LPGA Tour victory, first major Championship and confirms her putting performance helped her to win!

And me (Stéphane Barras the founder & analyst) I got to do more CaddiePlayer stuff…

Day1 #SmallWorld : I run to the first tee 9h05 to finally see in action Jaye-Marie Green and with it so many memories come back to me. Memories of Florida « ClubMed Sandpiper 1987 » when I first met South Florida PGA section winner Greg Cerulli ! Greg back then was a promising Tour Pro that I later invited to Switzerland to compete in my home town. What a small world to find out 25 years later Jaye-Marie is his niece! A so called a Rookie on the LPGA. So when I first met Jaye-Marie and said > Hi, I am a best friend of Greg! Jaye-Marie spontanously jumped into my arms to give me a big hug.  Yes..there is nothing like kind of welcome being introduced by someonelse ! Her Dad Dany is on her bag and they are doing pretty well as the rookie on the LPGA tour. I then decided to CaddiePlayer Jay-Marie seeing her grabing the leaderboard at -4 after 12th…. But unfortunatly two par 5s later she dropped 2 shots to finish in the pack at -2. Thank God the following day she just made the cut by holding on at the last with a 25 footer.

Day2 #CurrentWorldNumberOne versus #FormerWorldNumberOne : What a great coincidence when I found out that Stacy Lewis was pairing with Yani Tseng for CaddiePlayer this was a great opportunity to get more data and ultimately better understand why Yani is struggling and sadly miss the cut, while Stacy climbed the leaderboard.  Using CaddiePlayer numbers you can easily understand why, despite the fact that Yani was outdriving Stacy by 40 yds+!

Day3 #BuildingCaddiePlayerNetwork : When you have the ability to secure a Media Pass at a Major (Thanks to my Chinese Blog > Par354) you also use it to build your network! Being able to sit in the Media room is like being in a "bee factory" where the best "GolfHoney" is produced. A concentration of MasterBrain delivering KeyNews, Outstanding Pictures and endless Social Media stuff. What a privilege to live this close up.

Day4 #MyNextCaddiePlayerStar? : When out there on the field 120 girls chasing Success, Fame and Glory you know for sure that someone will be looking for the ultimate performance tool! My challenge then is how to make them "Listen to CaddiePlayer" and ultimatly "Believe In CaddiePlayer" In today's world it’s not simple to convience people to buy your stuff because everything is out there to buy…. Thanks to the web I was able to developp CaddiePlayer but the web is also full of CaddiePlayer look-a-likes (this is what people think)…. Fortunately for me and the success of CaddiePlayer, no one is like Stéphane Barras ;-) …. And may be I have found in Evian my next CaddiePlayer SuperStar !

Until next Time « CaddiePlayer or Die »

Importance of the Golfer-Caddie relationship

Understanding the Quality and Functions of the Golfer-Caddie relationship

Provided by: HSBC & Loughborough University

There is ample anecdotal evidence to highlight the important role of the player-caddie relationship. The relationship has also been at the centre of media attention as its subject-matter can easily provide splashy headlines, sensational stories, breaking news – all of which can grab an audience’s attention and hold it. The player-caddie relationship has been regarded as a key ingredient in the performance of many golfers. For example, Matt Majendie for CNN on March 2014 published an article entitled “Inside the mind of a caddy: The bag men behind the world’s top golfers” (http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/27/sport/golf/steve-williams-golf-caddies/ ). He provided an overview of what the relationship is like while illustrating successful partnerships. The relationship between golfer and caddie was described as a marriage where understanding how the golfer thinks and feels, what makes them tick, being patient and friendly, managing potential conflict effectively, taking different roles including coach and psychologist, as well as supporting were all deemed important relational properties. Perhaps it is these relational properties that make these partnerships long-term and successful: Steve Williams with both Adam Scott and Tiger Woods (which is considered the most successful partnership by many as Woods achieved 13 out 14 major wins with Williams), as well as Terry Mundy with Laura Davies and Ian Poulter. Poulter recently said, “Your relationship with your caddie is very important every day, not just practice days. Terry has been with me for seven and a half years and we get on great – we’ve got the same sense of humour…You need to be able to rely on your caddie at certain times to be able to give you the right information.” (IMG, interview dated May 2013).
