MCILROY TAKES HUGE RACE TO DUBAI LEAD

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

RORY McIlroy opened up a mammoth lead over his rivals in The Race to Dubai with his third win in as many outings as he delivered a battling performance in near darkness to win his second Major championship of the season at the US PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.

The Northern Irishman looks to be in unstoppable form having enjoyed a spectacular few weeks that has also seen him claim The Open Championship and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. His victory in Kentucky, which saw him become the first player since Padraig Harrington in 2008 to win back-to-back Majors, and, at 25 years and 98 days, the third youngest player in modern history to win four Majors, was perhaps the most impressive of the bunch.

McIlroy took a one-stroke lead into a rain-delayed final round but found himself three off the pace at the turn as Rickie Fowler took the lead. But a stunning eagle three on the tenth followed by birdies on 13 and 17 saw him complete a gritty back-nine fight back as he signed for three-under-par 68 to win by one from Phil Mickelson with a 16-under-par total of 268.

“I didn’t think in my wildest dreams I would have a summer like this,” said McIlroy after being presented with the huge Wanamaker Trophy for the second time in his career. I just played the best golf of my life.

“I gutted it out today, it was a little different to my previous Major wins. I think I showed a lot of guts to get the job done.”

The record single-season prize money total on The European Tour is the €5,519,118 McIlroy himself amassed in 2012 as he topped The Race to Dubai and won the DP World Tour Championship. But with 100 days to go until this year’s season-ending showcase, taking place at Jumeirah Golf Estates from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 November, and the big-money Final Series still to come, McIlroy, with four wins under his belt, already has an eye-watering €5,120,709 with Sergio Garcia in second place on €2,273,917.

It was another great weekend for European Tour players as defending DP World Tour Championship and Race to Dubai champion Henrik Stenson went out in a breathtaking 30 shots in the final round at Valhalla and signed for five-under-par 66 to take a share of third place with Rickie Fowler on 14-under-par, which moves him up to fourth place on The Race to Dubai with €1,696,231.

Finland’s Mikko Ilonen continued his fine season by taking a share of seventh place on 11-under-par while South Africa’s Ernie Els and Frenchman Victor Dubuisson also reached the same total. Inaugural DP World Tour Championship winner Lee Westwood, who was tied for the lead after the opening round, finished tied 15th on nine-under-par and was joined by Louis Oosthuizen, Mark Warren and Charl Schwartzel.

All will be in the line-up when the DP World Tour Championship gets underway in November, forming what promises to be one of the most star-studded fields since the tournament began in 2009.

Rory back to N.1: CaddiePlayer "SwingScore" show you why

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Crans-Montana, Switzerland August 6th

Thanks to ShotLink PGATour Track System, I could "CaddiePlayer"  RoryAdam and Tano during the World Golf Championships Bridgestone-Invitational.

Rory regained the World Number one ranking by winning the tournament and moves Adam  to second place. Tano finish last.

CaddiePlayer will show you what you can make of it.

  • Rory overall game was outstanding

(Since CaddiePlayer is the only System that calculates a "SwingScore", you can see below the comparison between Rory’s "SwingScores" and his RealScores... there are all under par!)

  • Adam overall game was inconsistent! However Adam's perfect short game could manage an impressive 65 on day 3 with only 23 putts.

(You can see below significant variations between Adam's RealScores and "SwingScores", on day 3 up to 10 shots difference).

  • Tano struggled with his long game!

(Day 2, Tano's "SwingScore" 86, dropping too many shots with his tee shots to go up the leaderboard. Still a nice USD 50’000 cash in to finish last).

I was betting for Rory Mcilroy, but did not win the 100’000£. His father Did!

Dubai Desert Classic 2007, Rory Mcilroy is playing as an Amateur, I am there scouting for a German Sports Agent who request me to find the next superstar of Golf. I am on the range at the Emirates Golf Club, my eyes sharp as an eagle, thanks to more than 30 years watching the best swing in the world, my eyes are scanning for the “Magic Move” and here it is, the Irish 17 years of age public unknown, curly dark hair, playing as an Amateur alongside the best and here I went following Rory Mcilroy at the Majlis course, 4 hours later, I was speaking with Father Mcilroy (Gerry) if his son was still available for a Agent Contract. “Sure, Yes we would highly appreciate some support! Thank you for your interest in my Son. Here is my phone number” I quickly past on Gerry’s phone to Sports Agent Greiner but Greiner never called Gerry.

British Open 2014, July 20th Hoylake Royal Liverpool, I am trying to catch a piece of the Action, Rory is lifting the Claret Jug, the bet is won, Player Rory Glory and Agent Greiner Pity!

This time I did not bet for Rory but for Casey! Note: As I was sharing the room with Casey’s Caddie Paul Duca. I felt the odds 50-1 was a good chance to pay off my room. Never less, I did not come to Hoylake to bet, I came to Hoylake to Promote CaddiePlayer and thanks to Todd Hamilton (2004 British Open Winner and First CaddiePlayer non official Player that I assist back in 2012 to get a Top10 in PGA tour ) Todd kindly granted me a “PlayerGuestBadge”. Having a “PlayerGuesBadge” is the ultimate “Sesame Ouvre Toi” to see closer and better where the real action is: Players, Agents, Sponsors, Coaches, Families and close friends they are all there. So if you want to meet them just say Hi. I was there to CaddiePlayer John Daly and Todd Hamilton. Daly because last time I was at the British 1995 he won and since then I got to meet Daly's girl friend Annie now her Caddie too.

However my biggest surprise of all would not come from Todd Hamilton’s “PlayerGuestBadge” but from my every day journey back to Liverpool my sharing room aone hour train ride from Hoylake. Its 20h30, after a long day at Hoylake I finally arrive at JamesStreetStation down Town Liverpool to disembark and run up to the Elevator as a last to enter, I find myself face to face with who I believe to be Sean Foley!? Is it really him?? I saw him on TV, on Magazine, on the Web, Foley the coach of Tiger Woods face to face with Me in a Liverpool Train Station Elevator!?

What to do next? So here I say: Are you Sean Foley? The Famous Sean Foley? When he answer “Yes” and I said: “cool me too I am a coach” He looked at me and must have thought “So What…” but then I said: “I am a CaddiePlayer coach… “ I gave him the CaddiePlayer brochure, my card and explain Foley that CaddiePlayer is a course management solution when he answers: “… Yes, course management is important….” and here our “Face to Face” ended. He turned left to his hotel and me right to mine…. Walking back I thoughts wooah…. I just met Sean Foley the most wanted Coach of the moment in a public Train Station… Will he contact me? Instead GOD did it.

Next day, Friday 20h30 as thousands of people are heading home after another day of British Open Golf extravaganza, I am at Hoylake Train Station and guess what? Sean Foley is again next to me!? What a coincidence, I thought what!? “This is too much….” I toke out my camera not to miss this first-class selfi to post it on my facebook page and witness tens of “I Like”.  To make it short, I got to ride a one hour train journey sitting face to face to SUPER BUSY, SUPER COACH Sean Foley…. When he finally start to ask me questions….

Until next time!

McDowell secures thrilling victory!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Le Golf National, Alstom French Open, 6 July 2014

Facts of note:

  • Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell (67) successfully defends his Alstom Open de France title
  • American Kevin Stadler (76) and Thai Thongchai Jaidee (72) both fall one short
  • Frenchman Victor Riu (76) finishes 8th and secures his spot for the Open championship in two weeks time

Graeme McDowell produced a brilliant final round to overturn an eight shot deficit and successfully defend a tournament for the first time in his career. McDowell shrugged off some miserable weather conditions to retain his Alstom Open de France title, carding a closing 67 at Le Golf National, the joint-lowest round on a wet and windy day.

But the former US Open Champion still needed American Kevin Stadler to miss from two feet for par on the 18th, an effort which would have forced a sudden death play-off. With McDowell then dropping his only shot of the day on the 18th after finding heavy rough off the tee, Stadler needed to par the 18th to force a play-off but missed from two feet just as McDowell left the recording area to prepare for extra holes. Stadler's closing 76 left him in a tie for second with Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee, who dropped five shots in the first four holes but played the remainder in four under for a 72.

"I'm very surprised," McDowell said after claiming his tenth European Tour title. "Midway through my second glass of red wine last night, when I was very disappointed with my back-nine performance on Saturday, I really didn't think I'd be a) standing here with an opportunity to be in a play-off and b) with a trophy in my hands. I feel very fortunate. Kevin Stadler is a great, great player. I literally gave him that putt on the last green. I didn't expect him to miss that. It's not really the way you like to win. I was ready to go for the play-off, but I'll take it and run. I really needed this victory. It's a special one for me. It's pretty timely. There's a busy summer ahead and this a really good kick-start to the summer."

McDowell has deliberately played a lighter schedule this year to leave himself fresher for the second half of the season. "It's a good decision now, but I have to say myself and my team were starting to question it," the former US Open Champion added. "But my body has probably never been in as good a shape at this point in the season coming into two Major Championships, the FedEx Cup play-offs and hopefully The Ryder Cup. I'm very proud to defend my first title ever and this is the boost I needed on many fronts, especially The Ryder Cup (the win takes him tenth on the European points list)."

Stadler found himself five clear of the field when playing partner Jaidee got off to a terrible start and local favourite Victor Riu followed a birdie on the first with a double bogey on the second after hitting his tee shot in the water. But the 34 year old then missed from 18 inches for par on the fourth and four feet on the sixth, before running up a double-bogey six on the next where his ball was only found in the deep rough because an on-course television commentator stood on it. Stadler was allowed a free drop but could only hack the ball a few yards sideways and eventually did well to get up and down from short of the green for a six. A poor chip from left of the eighth green led to another bogey and two more early in the back nine looked to have ended his chances as McDowell picked up shots on the 13th, 14th and 16th.

Despite a shaky finish – a double bogey on 18 – local favorite Victor Riu managed a round of 76, enough to take 8th place on his own and book his ticket for the Open championship. "Obviously I'm delighted, the Parisian said. Although I didn't win, I managed to finish eighth, which I would never have imagined coming into this week. After a bad first half of the season, what happens to me here is a big bonus. And I qualify for the Open, which is the icing on the cake. Playing a Major is the dream for any golfer."
