J.B. Holmes explosed the "4shotsRule" at the BritishOpen

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

There was a time, midway through the third round Saturday at The Open, where J.B. Holmes was in the mix to win the claret jug. In fact, he was the first-round leader at Royal Portrush after shooting 66, then started last round with a double bogey to end 87 T67. J.B. became the first player in 114 years to begin the final round of The Open in the top-five and shoot 87 or worse. In 1905, Tom Williamson began the day tied for fifth, but shot 87 to drop into a tie for 13th. Holmes finished T-67 by doing so J.B. Holmes explosed the "4shotsRule" and questions one of its conclusion:

"The reason for the scores going more above the average than below could possibly be due to the golfer “giving up” on a bad day"

A the end Irish Shane Lowry won The Open Championship by six strokes for his first career major victory. Lowry is just the fourth player in the last 100 years to win his first major championship by a margin of six shots or more, joining Tiger WoodsLouis Oosthuizen, and Rory McIlroy.

Lowry entered the final round with a four-shot lead, the same margin he held after the third round of the 2016 U.S. Open. Because Shane won Sunday, Greg Norman remains the only player in major championship history to lose multiple 54-hole leads of four strokes or more.

Ten years after taking the Irish Open title as an amateur, Shane Lowry is the Champion Golfer of the Year. Lowry is the fifth player since 1960 to win both the Irish Open and The Open Championship. The others in that span: McIlroySir Nick FaldoSeve Ballesteros and Padraig Harrington

ScottishOpen review -  BritishOpen week

While watching Benjamin Hebert drama 3 putts twice during the Scottish Play off ( first putt miss pace, second miss line), I recall two years ago giving my first putting lesson to Richard Sterne inside the locker room at the Scottish Open Dundonald GC.

Since, Richard has become  a top "PuttZones" putter as well two years in a row "PuttsGained" his n.1 stats and earned his biggest career check in Abu Dhabi HSBC. This week Richard will be playing "our" first British Open (his 9th  see below summary).

Thanks to Waggle European Tour stats and CaddiePlayer solutions, I will be monitoring online from Edinburgh. This is what today IT Tech allow you to do.

On top of that, my ScottishOpen week was highlighted by giving a putting lesson at historical Muirfield , as well met and followed a few holes Brandon Wu the All-American NCAA team Champion. Brandon, Standford University graduate and qualifier at the BritishOpen, will play his practice round with Tiger Woods.

At last I will be looking up close to Scottish Syme Connor whom since he was introduce to our research had his first win on the Challenge tour

Lahinch Ireland,

At first, I thought I arrived in a Surf town, if you want to learn surfing in Ireland this is the place to go Lahinch, then I found out every other shop is a pub and never saw so many drinkers in one street…  When it came to the golf course, he did not want you to walk the first 11 holes as every footstep was an adventure to hurt your ankles > Unfortunate Justin Walters is now walking with crutch… Still the view from  hole 8 is breath taking and worth the trip.

At the press conference, our host Paul McGinley predicted the winning score would be around -10 he was right for the last 7 holes (see chart below)….  To summarize: Lahinch Irish open started the show with a “Momentum” 63 from Padraig Harrington, "saved' Robert Rock season with a putt for 59 on Saturday and a check of 263.586 Euro on Sunday. At last the Golf delivered the winner it was hoping for...John Rham Superstar.

  • Padraig quotes after openning round of 63: "Momentum was on my side but it was a nice casual 63. doesn't always work like that. I've worked a lot harder to shoot 73 at times."
  • Robert quotes after saturday round of 60: "It was a "fun" day. I played rubbish so far this year, so just delighted to play better. 60 is a great score. Its my best score so far."

We as CaddiePlayerTeam Richard Sterne made the cut battling with wonder bunker shots…. Glad to move up on the weekend to finish T34.
